Best Chromebooks for Kids: In these pandemic times, Chromebooks are quickly becoming a staple of American education. You need to invest in the best Chromebook for kids since the system and learning are leveraging technology. However, children have special needs when it comes to technology.

Kids can be harsh with gadgets, as we all know. Chromebooks for kids should be simple and user-friendly, and durable so that they can last a long time. As a side note, you might have to replace parts from time to time, kids, right?

At a Glance:

Chromebooks are laptops running on Google’s Chrome OS, which is less expensive than a typical Windows or Mac computer. Chrome OS is cloud- and browser-based, which makes it significantly lighter and faster. In addition, it automatically updates in the background, which keeps the Chromebook running efficiently and securely.

Chromebooks can only run Android apps. You shouldn’t worry, though; Google Play and Chrome Web stores have millions of them for whatever you need. You should not expect to run heavy computing processes, such as photo editing or hard-core gaming software.

1. Google Pixelbook Go

Best Pick
Best Chromebooks for Kids

Chromebooks run Google’s OS, so you’d expect Google to manufacture its own hardware. At that point, Google has really outdone itself with this Chromebook.

Pixelbook Go comes with built-in antivirus software and easy access to all your child’s favorite apps. Thanks to 8GB of RAM, it runs incredibly fast. There is a battery life of up to 12 hours, enough to occupy a child for (most of) the day; besides, it supports fast charging (2 hours after 20 minutes of charging), just in case they need a boost quickly.

With a 13.3″ HD screen and a 1080p camera, this Chromebook is ideal for online classes, video meetings, as well as watching movies and shows. The quiet and backlit keyboard and large touchpad also make it easy for your child to operate the Chromebook.

It weighs just 2 pounds and folds to just 13mm in thickness. Furthermore, it has an ergonomic grip-able design, which makes it exceptionally portable as well as suitable for small or clumsy hands.

Pros

  • Keyboard with extra quiet “hush” keys.
  • A large touchpad makes navigation easy.
  • Fast charging technology.
  • Video meetings and movie watching are made more enjoyable with an HD Touchscreen and stereo speakers.

Cons

  • Do not fold into a tablet.

2. Asus Chromebook Flip C434

Staff Pick
Best Chromebooks for Kids (1)

If you don’t want your child squinting at a tiny screen, then this best Chromebook for kids with 4 GB of RAM is worth considering. Flip C434 has a 14″ HD display with ultra-slim bezels, allowing it to be used as both a tablet and TV. It also offers a 178-degree viewing angle.

The body is made of lightweight aluminum metal for solid, premium construction. It also features a 360-degree hinge that allows you to fold the Chromebook into several configurations. It also features an up to 10-hour battery life.

Besides having a webcam, a backlit keyboard, and a large touchpad, it also has one USB-A port, two USB-C ports, a MicroSD card reader, and a headphone jack.

Pros

  • An “Ergo-lift” hinge allows the keyboard and screen to be placed at the most comfortable angle.
  • For less signal interference, use Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac).
  • Keyboards with backlighting.

Cons

  • The white lettering on the aluminum keys can be difficult to see in daylight.
  • A bit pricey.

3. Samsung Chromebook 4+

Budget Pick
Best Chromebooks for Kids reviews

A durable, budget Chromebook that won’t let your kid down is what you’re looking for. Chromebook 4+ costs are even less than the average smartphone.

As one of the best Chromebooks for kids, it features a 15.6-inch HD display, a 720p camera, and an Intel Celeron n4000 processor. It has built-in anti-virus software and automatic updates, like all Chromebooks.

Samsung Chromebooks come with a sturdy, rugged frame that can withstand drops from a backpack or on the floor. It has a backlit, spill-resistant keyboard, so you don’t have to worry about your kid accidentally spilling drinks on it. Also included are two USB-C ports and a MicroSD card reader. Additionally, it has a battery life of at least 10 hours.

Pros

  • It is affordable.
  • A sharp display with great color and a wide viewing angle.
  • The build is solid.
  • A webcam with live filters for video chats and Multi-Shot mode

Cons

  • The speakers might not be the best.

4. Acer Chromebook Spin 11

Best Chromebooks

If you’re looking for the best Touchscreen Chromebook, the Spin 11 is certainly a contender. The Chromebook is equipped with a 360-degree flip design that lets you use it as a tablet or a laptop.

It weighs just 2.62 pounds. Your kid can use the stylus to draw, write, or edit their work with the 11.6″ HD Touchscreen made of Gorilla Glass to avoid scratches or breaks. The Chromebook has up to 10 hours of battery life, so there’s plenty your kid can do.

Despite its plastic build, the Spin 11 is actually pretty durable, even with kids. Moreover, it comes with fast wireless connections, including 802.11ac and 2×2 MIMO. In addition, it has two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, and a MicroSD card reader.

Pros

  • Design that flips 360 degrees.
  • 11 ac and 2×2 MIMO for super-fast internet.
  • Virus protection built-in.

Cons

  • Make sure your printer is compatible.

5. Lenovo Chromebook Duet

chromebooks for kids

Lenovo Chromebook Duet gives your child everything they need for virtual learning and more. The Chromebook Duet is also pretty snappy thanks to its MediaTek Helio P60T processor, even booting up in just under 10 seconds.

Weighing just 2.1 pounds, it is quite light. But this isn’t to say it’s delicate; it will still work after being dropped on the floor in a backpack. The device has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as front and rear cameras. Battery life is also up to 10 hours. Lastly, the battery charger is connected by a pogo pin connector, making it less likely to be damaged if your kid isn’t too gentle.

Chromebook Duet comes with a 10.1″ HD Touchscreen and a detachable keyboard, so it can be used as both a laptop and tablet. It has an integrated stand on the back of the screen, so it can be used upright.

Pros

  • Detachable keyboard with plug-and-play capability.
  • The screen stand.
  • The battery charger features a kid-friendly pogo pin connection.

Cons

  • There is one USB-C port.

6. Acer 15 CB5-571-C09S 15.6-Inch Full HD IPS

Acer has a Chromebook that has a screen larger than 13 inches if you prefer a larger screen. The Chromebook 15 has a 15.6-inch 1080p screen, which is a big screen for Chromebooks and a durable aluminum frame. However, this screen is also dark and bland, so you need to decide whether multimedia streaming on a big screen is worth it if you can’t see it well.

Even for a Chromebook, Acer’s keyboard is solid. The keyboard has a shallow stroke, measuring 1.4 millimeters (we prefer 1.5 millimeters more), yet requires only 69 grams of force to press. The music was a little bouncy for my taste, but it allowed me to reach my usual maximum of 117 words per minute with my standard error rate of 2%.

Acer Chromebook 15 features an Intel Pentium N4200 quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal flash storage. That’s sufficient for simple tasks, such as word processing, web browsing, and streaming videos. When switching from one tab to another in Chrome, I noticed a hiccup when I had 12 open tabs, including one streaming a 1080p clip from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

The Chromebook 15 supports apps from the Google Play Store, which greatly expands its capabilities. With Android apps, the Chromebook 15 Touchscreen is helpful.

Pros

  • Treatment speed
  • Battery life is long
  • Stainless steel chassis

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Strange keyboard

7. Google Pixelbook (i5, 8 GB RAM, 128GB) (GA00122-US)

Google Pixelbook (i5, 8 GB RAM, 128GB) (GA00122-US)

Even though it’s a niche choice, if you’re looking for the best of the best, you can’t go wrong with the Google Pixelbook. Chromebook is as close to perfection as it gets. Rather than a generic laptop processor, this beast uses a 7th generation Intel Core i5. Technology aside, this is what we call a suitable laptop processor.

Besides the 8GB of RAM, this Chromebook also has a 128 GB SSD. There is the question of how much power is necessary on a ChromeOS device, but hey, more power is always better. This is especially true if you intend to use it as an Android gaming device. There is a Pixelbook with an i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, but it is very, very, very expensive.

Let’s get back to this Pixelbook. It’s still expensive, and it’s harder to justify an Android device’s extra power. However, if you’re looking for one of the most powerful Chromebooks on the market and don’t need to worry about upgrading for the next few years, this is the one for you.

Pros

  • Powerful
  • Screenplay killer
  • It is possible to become a tablet
  • This is a huge storage option

Cons

  • It’s expensive
  • The stylus is sold separately
  • Audio performance is poor

8. Lenovo C330 Convertible Laptop, 11.6-Inch HD

Lenovo C330 Convertible Laptop, 11.6-Inch HD

Chromebooks are generally good budget options for those who can operate entirely online. It seems that every Chromebook has a fatal flaw that paralyzes the whole experience. You have either a weak processor, a cheap build, or a poor screen. There is currently no Chromebook that balances build quality, performance, and price.

Lenovo Chromebook C330 could change that.

Chromebooks like the C330 occupy a special place in the world. Averaging the US $ 280-300, it is at the upper end of what we would consider “economical.” Considering its price, the C330 offers a lot of features, including excellent compatibility with Android apps, thanks to its MediaTek SoC. In addition, many of its components are superior to those commonly found in Chromebooks.

Chromebook C330 is mainly filled with low-end components, starting with the unusual inclusion of a 1.7 GHz MediaTek MTK 8173C processor, the only non-Intel chip in this roundup. (MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company, released this processor in 2015) 4 GB of RAM is standard, but the inclusion of 64 GB of flash storage – double that of other laptops this year – is a bonus. The C330 comes with a full-size USB 3.0 port, a USB-C port, a full-size SD card reader, and a full-size HDMI port. Chromebooks at this price are very unlikely to have the latter two features.

It has 4 GB of RAM and a powerful processor, as you might expect, but instead of a 32 GB SSD, it has a 64 GB SSD. If storage is a concern for you, this is the Chromebook for you. Keep in mind that filling the SSD of a Chromebook would cause the whole system to slow down.

A general rule of thumb is to use an SSD for apps and updates, online storage for documents, and a microSD card for fun stuff like music or games. Nevertheless, more space will always be winless.  That’s the way it is; particularly when kids want to download memes and comics.

Pros

  • With 64 GB of memory and an SD card slot, this device offers a lot of storage space.
  • In order to use the device as a tablet, the screen can be turned flat and folded.
  • Compact design

Cons

  • It’s expensive
  • For the price, RAM could be higher
  • White cases aren’t for everyone

9. Acer 514 Full HD Touch Display

Acer 514 Full HD Touch Display

The Acer Chromebook 514 is a super powerful Chromebook if money isn’t an issue. It has a lot more power than the more affordable options on this list. While the RAM is the usual 4 GB, it’s the SSD that makes the difference.

This doesn’t mean you can fill the hard drive up at will, but 64 GB is enough to store offline work, lots of apps, and multiple games. You should consider this if your child is a player.

The extra space is excellent, but it is not necessary. Personally, I avoid Chromebooks with 16GB of storage and always choose 32GB. The best Chromebooks for kids are more likely to be used for schooling than for playing games, so even though you can’t store many games there, you won’t be able to install many of them.

Due to this, I find the additional cost difficult to justify when compared with the Acer Chromebook 514. If you do not mind your child playing games on his Chromebook, then opt for the Acer Chromebook 514. If not, save your money and choose one of the others.

Pros

  • SSD 64GB
  • RAM is a good amount
  • 14-inch screen

Cons

  • It’s expensive
  • There are no other color options

10. Samsung (Wi-Fi, 11.6-Inch)

Samsung (Wi-Fi, 11.6-Inch)

Chromebook offers exceptional performance and battery life in an ultra-thin, 11.6-inch screen-size case with a glass liner and image sensor so you can use it in an elegant and convenient way. But unlike traditional computers, it doesn’t have a fan or moving parts, so it stays cooler even on your lap and works very quietly.

Your Chromebook gives you access to the internet at least 10,000 feet with a free Internet Gogo pass. With its large multi-touch keypad, you have better control during use. It comes with built-in applications for all your day-to-day needs, automatically backs up your files to the cloud, and provides free updates that help it keep getting better as you use it.

Pros

  • Silently works
  • Full HD IPS display
  • Keyboard with backlight
  • An excellent performance
  • A high level of impact resistance

Cons

  • Memory small enough
