1. Lenovo Chromebook Duet

Best Pick
Lenovo Chromebook Duet

Featuring a detachable keyboard and trackpad, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet is an affordable ChromeOS tablet. It’s as simple as snapping the device on, and it’s a laptop. Due to its low price point, it was necessary to cut corners along the way.

Although everyone would love to have a MacBook, not everyone has the kind of cash lying around for that. Lenovo Chromebook Duet is, if nothing else, a stylish option for students with tight budgets.

This metric makes the Chromebook Duet essentially unbeatable. 10.1-inch displays are more appropriate for tablets than for actual laptop screens.

It takes up roughly 9.6″ by 6.6″ of desk space when the keyboard is attached to the bottom using magnetic connectors. These tiny desks will fit perfectly on the attached desks that are commonly seen in lecture halls. The Chromebook Duet only weighs about two pounds with a keyboard attached, so you won’t be carrying something burdensome for the whole day. A single, solitary pound of weight results from using it purely as a tablet.

When it does not exist, it has no purpose. A Chromebook Duet’s most significant advantage is its portability. The place doesn’t matter — your living room or your classroom. Its relatively small size is the only drawback to the keyboard. Due to the size of my hands, I sometimes feel like I’m typing with them squashed together.

The Chromebook Duet’s battery is one of its best features. The Duet comes with a 7,000mAh battery that means you won’t have to worry about running out of power between classes. The review was written while it was being used as a primary work station without being plugged in until the afternoon of the second day.

Chromebook Duet’s performance isn’t top-of-the-line. As a school device, it may not impress you with its RAM, and there aren’t many ports. The little guy seems convenient (mainly) to carry around, whether it’s a college campus or the house you would instead leave if it weren’t for the pandemic.

Pros

  • Slim and light
  • An excellent keyboard
  • Battery life is long

Cons

  • Average performance

2. Dell Chromebook 11 3100

Staff Pick
Dell Chromebook 11 3100

DELL is famous for making robust and compact devices that never compromise on quality. Here is a quick look at whether the Dell Chromebook 11 is a compelling device or is simply a disappointing device.

Considering the Chromebook 11’s budget-friendly price tag, one can’t help but think that the device is cheap and mediocre in quality. However, such a stereotypical view turns out to be far from the truth. Using this laptop daily will not cause damage to the laptop. Due to its design-centric features, the Chromebook is durable and long-lasting.

Protecting the USB ports from damage, the rounded edges of the enclosure extend outwards. Additionally, the device’s bottom is equipped with rubber-type bumpers that prevent the device’s hardware from being damaged by falls and drops.

The device is overall durable, so let’s talk about that. Chromebook 11’s strength is no joke since it comes from Dell. This laptop outperforms the basic MIL-STD standard when it comes to strength testing.

Dell has made an inexpensive Chromebook that’s built to last several long years, based on the device’s intended use in classrooms and households with many children.

While the design and build quality are excellent, how does it perform? A big part of the Dell Chromebook 11 (3100) strength is its 4GB of memory, 16GB hard drive, and Intel Celeron N4020 dual-core processor. It turns out that this device has enough power to allow schoolchildren and kids to complete tasks quickly and on schedule.

This Chromebook can easily handle Chrome tabs and applications from the Google Play Store day in and day out. Given its price range, Chrome OS can’t be anything more than mediocre.

Despite its inexpensive price tag, the Dell Chromebook 11 (3100) offers impressive features for teens and young students. Laptops like this one are hard to dislike because there’s so much to love about them. It combines affordability with the high-quality build quality. Designed to accomplish most jobs, except for a few hiccups here and there, this little spark-maker is the perfect fit for you.

Pros

  • Built to last
  • Excellent I/O
  • A minimalist design
  • Exceptionally affordable

Cons

  • The reader does not support microSD cards

3. Acer Aspire 5

Budget Pick
Acer Aspire 5

This Acer Aspire 5 is an excellent Mid-Range laptop that performs well, plays media, has impressive battery life, and is priced very competitively. Acer’s Aspire 5 is a good example of a midrange machine that’s easy to overlook. As far as computing demands and budget constraints go, people either opt for the high-end laptops featured in the headlines or opt for budget Chromebooks under $600.

Despite the ideal balance of price and performance, mid-range machines go largely unnoticed, despite their ability to provide consumers with a good return on investment. With powerful components and solid performance at a very affordable price, the Acer Aspire 5 offers its users the balance they seek.

Featuring 8th-generation Intel Core processors, this laptop is more than capable of day-to-day computing needs. Another mid-range laptop proves to be the way to go with the Acer Aspire 5. You may find that this Chromebook is a good choice for you if most of your needs don’t include video editing, designing, or drafting.

You probably wouldn’t expect the Aspire 5 to be too flashy, given its origins as a mid-range laptop. Despite this, the Aspire 5 isn’t bulky and garish. The Acer Aspire 5 weighs 2.20kg and measures 2.16 x 38.16 x 26.3 cm as a large laptop. You may, however, struggle to get out and work on a busy train.

It comes with four ports for connecting peripherals: two USB 2.0, one USB 3.0, a USB C, Ethernet, and a SD memory card slot. This laptop has a plastic bottom half, with the large keyboard and touchpad tucked inside. Though it lacks an aluminum finish, the brushed texture is still quite pleasant despite not being as premium. Although it took a short time for fingerprints to be picked up, it did quickly.

It’s a pretty neat-looking machine that’s understated but has some excellent design features. In addition to a reflective Acer logo on its lid, the chassis is primarily made out of plastic. This solidly built, affordable workhorse laptop provides reliable performance at an affordable price. However, it has a few issues.

Pros

  • Long battery life
  • Updated components
  • Quality construction
  • Performs decently
  • Excellent value for money

Cons

  • Uncomfortable feel to the touchpad

4. HP Chromebook x360 14a

HP Chromebook x360 14a

With HP Chromebook x360 12b, you get a Chromebook that’s affordable for grown-ups. Chromebooks that hover around $250 are a cut above the basic models. What if your children destroy one of those? But you, with your surprisingly good design and excellent battery life, deserve the Chromebook x360 12b.

The Chromebook is still a budget-grade model, so there are some compromises to be expected: The performance is average, and while the screen is tall and pleasant, it isn’t very bright. Nevertheless, HP provided quality and productive experiences without breaking the bank.

There’s more to the Chromebook x360 12b than its specs alone reveal. The sturdy chassis was a key detail HP paid attention to. Its plastic body feels sturdy even when held by one corner, thanks to the aluminum keyboard deck. Despite its lightweight nature, the bag can be carried easily.

Silver is the color of the base, while white is the color of the plastic display lid. Even with its matte finish, the top just picks up a little shine when I touch it sometimes, perhaps because I’m so afraid of ruining anything white.

HP trades off the display for strategic reasons. Luminance: 229 nits. It’s just bright enough to work in an office with good lighting; don’t think about taking it outside. It has average bezels, not ultra-thin. Its aspect ratio was instead 3:2.

It’s common to see laptops with 16:9 aspect ratios, but if you’re working with long documents or large spreadsheets, you’ll have trouble being productive. I’d rather have the Chromebook x360 12b’s taller screen than a few more nits because it makes it easier to do real work.

It is worth mentioning that there are USB ports. Having two USB-C ports keeps HP in step with the current trend while retaining one toe in the past. To give yourself plenty of options, you may want to invest in a USB-C hub since the charger connects to one of those USB-C ports.

Located above the spacebar is a large trackpad. The button is almost at the top when clicked. In the past, HP trackpads have been unevenly responsive and sometimes seemed to lose palm rejection. This trackpad, however, performed smoothly and predictably.

If you’re looking for something relatively affordable and significantly more excellent than what kids might use at school, the HP Chromebook x360, 12b might be a good fit. You can work on it for long periods without getting tired, as it is small, light, and versatile.

Pros

  • An elegant design
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Reads fingerprints
  • Securing webcams
  • WLAN 6

Cons

  • Instead of SSD storage, it uses eMMC flash

5. Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5

Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5

The Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 is a classy Chromebook for those looking for an affordable Laptop. If you want a laptop that won’t do what you want, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 Chromebook could be the one for you.

Chromebooks are inexpensive and straightforward laptops capable of only a few of the things that Windows Laptops can. Yet, that slice is more than enough for most people. It boasts better battery life, builds quality, and display quality than just about any Windows alternative at this price.

The lowest-powered Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 should be your first choice. Chrome OS may not handle Chrome OS’ demanding apps, so you might as well go for the Core i3 version. There is 8GB of RAM and an Intel Core i5 processor in this laptop.

A classy laptop, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 Chromebook makes use of traditional construction. Made from plastic and aluminum, it’s all-grey. With a lightweight of just 1.34kg, it is as portable as any other Windows laptop.

Anodized aluminum is used for its lid, not desperately trying to show it is metal. Despite being made of plastic, the upper and lower body plates have a nice soft-touch finish.

There is a solid keyboard and touchpad on the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5. Highlights of this keyboard include the 1.4mm key travel, the non-hollow feel, and the combination of fast actuation feedback that rivals that of expensive laptops. Your fingers won’t feel much resistance on this keyboard, but it will be very comfortable.

It is among the more powerful Chromebooks to come with the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5. With its Intel Core i5-10210U processor and 8GB RAM, it offers 128 GB of SSD storage.

Some aspects of the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 are similar to Chromebooks. With its comfortable keyboard, solid screen, decent build quality, and stylish appearance, it makes for a fabulous Laptop. Additionally, battery life is excellent.

It’s hard to see a relatively powerful processor like an Intel Core i5 can do in a Chromebook; it isn’t apparent in a Windows laptop. Chromebooks, however, make good low-cost Laptops for people who need only the basics.

Pros

  • Screen looks good
  • Convenient
  • Keyboard with no noise
  • Powerful batteries

Cons

  • High-spec models are questionable in terms of value

6. SAMSUNG Galaxy Chromebook 4

SAMSUNG Galaxy Chromebook 4

The Samsung Chromebook 4 is a good budget laptop with fast and responsive performance. It has a good battery life and a good screen size. It is a small, minimal laptop that is easy to carry.

Budget-friendly Chromebooks are available from Samsung, including the Chromebook 4. Although its specs are similar to that of the Samsung Chromebook Plus V2, its design is sleeker, and it has a much lower price tag.

The 11.6-inch screen is coupled with an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and 4GB of RAM. If you want more screen real estate, you can also get a 15.6-inch model, though it will be more expensive.

Its battery life is excellent, and it is priced low, but the screen isn’t bright and colorful enough. You cannot touch apps from the Google Play store on this laptop since it has a non-touchscreen.

You would expect a device at this price to look precisely the way it does. With curved edges and a silver hue, Samsung’s Chromebook 4 resembles many MacBook copycats.

Despite its aluminum top and plastic body, I was surprised by the laptop’s price. The chunky display bezel makes this machine look even more aged, but I don’t think you should expect anything else on a Laptop under $250.

Samsung Chromebook 4 is equipped with 4GB of RAM and an Intel Celeron 3000N processor for decent multitasking. When I split the screen into 12 Chrome tabs, I observed lag only when I returned to the Giphy page after looking at a Google doc and watching a 1080p YouTube video. My notes on the performance of the system stayed responsive in a Google Doc.

Its longevity, keyboard, and performance make it one of the best budget Chromebooks out there. This display would be better if it didn’t offer so little brightness and color.

Pros

  • Powerful batteries
  • Lightweight
  • Performs decently
  • Excellent keyboard

Cons

  • Touchless dim display

7. ASUS VivoBook 15

ASUS VivoBook 15

A budget laptop with high hopes, the Asus VivoBook 15 is a well-built laptop. Often, you may think those budget laptops are too good to be true. At an exceptional price, you can get performance that will last for a few years. In many cases, you’ll get less for your money when you pay less.  If you choose the older model with its touchscreen touchpad or the less bulky newer model, it’s a smart choice for a moderately priced 15-inch laptop.

A great deal of effort went into dressing the Asus VivoBook 15 for success. Despite its slate gray chassis and plastic construction, despite its relative lightness – just 3.7 pounds, less than the Acer Aspire 5 and HP 15, it’s all very professionally built.

In the middle of the laptop, a keyboard is fitted, as on Asus’ premium laptops. A fingerprint scanner allows you to lock your system, and the trackpad is flush on the wrist rest without being too noticeable. There is enough room on the keyboard for you to rest your wrist comfortably as you thumb through your work while Asus managed to fit a full number pad.

When considering docking your laptop and using a complete setup, it’s best to get one with many ports. There are two classic USB 2.0 Type-A ports on the laptop’s left side, as well as a status indicator light.

There are four USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port for tethering, and a headphone/mic jack combination on the laptop’s right side. You can add an Ethernet port to a laptop in this price range using a USB Type-C adapter, which is a rarity for laptops in this price range.

It’s a thin laptop with a NanoEdge screen that measures 15.6 inches and has 1920 x 1080 resolution. The laptop’s webcam is integrated into the top bezel, which is bigger by a bit. However, the widescreen display is not worth the effort for online video consumption due to the display’s dim color profile and strange viewing angles.

There is room for improvement in the dual speakers at the bottom of the Asus VivoBook 15. Listening to music and watching a movie without headphones can be quite stressful. The strong melody in Midnight’s Deep Blue, for instance, was quite clear, while the vocals sounded distant.

Even with mediocre benchmark results, the Intel Core-i3 processor and 8GB of RAM on the VivoBook are pretty capable. My fans did not sound like they were about to take off as I sifted through dozens of Google Chrome tabs plus navigated through my cloud-based library in Adobe Lightroom.

Fortunately, the VivoBook 15 isn’t entirely without ports, so you can use an external display, speakers, and a mouse if that’s the only choice you have. To get a bit more processing power, you may want to consider the VivoBook 15 with Core-i5 processor.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly
  • Detailed keyboard layout
  • Lightweight
  • A wide variety of ports

Cons

  • Battery life is poor

8. Lenovo Flex 3 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

Lenovo Flex 3 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

Lenovo’s Flex 3 15-inch laptop offers multimode functionality in an attractive chassis and a responsive touchscreen, so it is an excellent selection for users seeking a 2-in-1 that can handle daily computing demands in multiple modes and functionality.

Whether you want to use it for business, multimedia, or personal purposes, the convertible laptop provides the speed to do all of that. Lenovo Flex 3 offers many advantages over its competition in its category compared to its competitors. Featuring an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a hybrid hard drive, multitasking has never been easier.

You can quickly flip the screen 360 degrees in a second, thanks to the 360-degree hinge design. You can view the content in several ways, including via a laptop, a tent, or while standing. This Lenovo Flex screen displays multimedia content using Intel HD Graphics on a 15.6″ full HD display.

Microsoft’s upcoming Operating System, Windows 10, is preinstalled on the Lenovo Flex 3, so you can get right to work and start using it immediately.  With a slim design, the 15.16×0.87×10.04 inch (LxHxW) system weighs just 4.6 pounds. It is very light and provides up to four hours of battery life from one charge, making it convenient for road users.

Aside from two USB 3.0 ports and two 2.0 USB ports, this device has a four-in-one card reader, a USB audio jack, an HDMI output port for displaying pictures on a big screen, an HD webcam, and digital microphone arrays.

Lenovo Flex 3’s processor is the Intel Core i5-5200U, a relatively low-voltage, dual-core processor part of the Broadwell architecture’s 5th generation. Turbo boost boosts the processor speed to 2.7GHz, giving it a moderate 2.2GHz clock speed. Thus, it’s the ideal tool for techies and IT professionals or anyone needing to run more demanding programs than just a regular web browser.

With a 15.6-inch display and a responsive touchscreen, the Lenovo Flex 3 is an attractive, versatile 2-in-1 system that can handle daily computing needs in multimode use.

We have the right laptop for your needs, whether you are using it for business or for home. An excellent choice for people who are always on the move as it delivers excellent performance and stunning Full HD images for an affordable price.

Pros

  • Long battery life
  • Excellent keyboard
  • Amazing Ports
  • A sturdy chassis

Cons

  • Screen failure

9. Acer Chromebook Spin 311

Acer Chromebook Spin 311

In an overcrowded market filled with small, budget-friendly Chromebooks, the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 sets itself apart with its excellent battery life and keyboard. Despite its small size, the Acer Spin 311 Chromebook is very capable and inexpensive. It is designed to handle light workloads and light play.

Spin 311 is one of the best Chromebooks for kids that can also compete with some of the best Chromebooks at comparable prices. It’s an excellent Chromebook for students, kids, or anyone looking for a highly portable Laptop that does the job right.

Chromebooks like the Spin 311 have thick bezels around the screen, an all-aluminum chassis, and a sleek design that’s both mobile and durable. Those last two are successful for Spin 311. Nowhere else on the body flexes, except for the keyboard and the hinges. A few falls should not damage the screen since it is protected with Gorilla Glass.

Despite its small size, the Spin 311 is as much a positive as a negative. There is a sense of crampedness no matter what you are doing on this machine. Whether you’re taking the Spin 311 with you or using it for casual purposes at home, its size won’t be a problem.

Acer still included a USB Type-A port on the Spin 311 despite its limited ports. You’ll find the lone USB-A port, a Kensington lock, and the volume rocker on the right side of the chassis, as well as a headphone/mic combo jack and a power button on the left side.

As DisplayPort does support USB-C over USB, it is possible to connect an external display to the USB-C port. The charging port is also included.

IPS displays come in 16, 6-inch, and 11-inch sizes with resolutions just above 720p. Compromises are hidden behind it. On the one hand, Gorilla Glass offers antimicrobial protection against dust and microbes. Meanwhile, the peak brightness and resolution are low, while the bezels are thick.

One of Spin 311’s most robust features is its keyboard. The Spin 311 was a joy to type on, even for me, a mechanical keyboard snob. Considering the relatively low price of the Spin 311, this is an impressive feat. Dell’s XPS 15 is even outperformed by this device.

MT8183’s eight cores power the Spin 311. The Cortex-A73 architecture built by ARM powers two of the cores, while the Cortex-A53 architecture powers the other four. The eight-core processors have four dominant cores with this arrangement, plus four extra bodies supporting or dealing with other tasks.

However, the Spin 311’s keyboard is genuinely excellent, saving it from failure. Considering that an 11.6-inch Chromebook is even in the conversation, it’s not as good as the best laptop keyboards.

Pros

  • Long-lasting battery
  • A superb keyboard
  • Screen protected by Gorilla Glass

Cons

  • The screen is dim and low-resolution

10. Lenovo – Yoga C630 2-in-1

Lenovo - Yoga C630 2-in-1

Lenovo’s Yoga C630 13 is an affordable 2-in-1 laptop with 4G support. The long battery life and portability of this tablet make it a great choice for students. In contrast to more traditional laptops at the same price point, the ARM architecture has compatibility issues with 64-bit software and doesn’t offer much power.

Besides coming with a 360-hinge, it has a mix of gray metal and magnesium alloy clamshell. Using this, you can fold the screen all the way around to make it look like a chunky tablet or stand it up like a tent. This is especially useful for watching television and movies on the device on trains and planes.

Despite its unremarkable design, the device feels surprisingly premium for a £700 device. As soon as you open it up, you’ll find that it has tiny screen bezels as well as twin speakers on the sides.

Its keyboard is the only component that feels cheap on the C630 13. This chiclet keyboard offers tactile feedback, but the keys feel shallow and aren’t very wide. Even moderately heavy typing causes the case to flex. Therefore, you can use the keyboard to take notes and do essential office work, but you wouldn’t want to try writing a novel on it.

The screen looks acceptable to the naked eye. You can read web pages and conduct essential office duties with them. It’s reasonably bright and sharp. A few issues immediately leap out at me, including the muddy whites and the fact that the glass becomes quite reflective pretty quickly. However, both of these issues are present on almost all laptops at this price.

Streaming Netflix and office work are both possible with the device. However, the Laptop tapped out when attempting anything more challenging. As I tried to open GIMP, let alone use it, I made a cup of tea and half-drank it while trying to install creative software.

A Lenovo Yoga C630 13 (4G) is an excellent laptop for browsing the web, word processing, watching Netflix, and other essential functions. A superb lightweight, premium device with a decent screen and an impressive battery life.

Pros

  • Compact and light design
  • Budget-friendly screen
  • Long battery life

Cons

  • Powered too little

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much does a Chromebook cost?

We recommend the Lenovo Chromebook Duet to Chromebook shoppers on a budget. Other top picks for the best Chromebooks of 2021 include the Google Pixelbook Go, the Google Pixelbook, the HP Chromebook x360, and the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 4.

Q. Do you prefer an Acer Chromebook or an HP Chromebook?

It’s also packed with much more storage space and has a longer battery life. Acer’s system has twice the storage, so it’s cheaper than HP’s despite having 16GB, while HP’s only has 16GB. Acer’s performance is just a hair lighter as well. In addition, the screen is much better than the one on the HP Chromebook 14.

Q. What are the prospects for Chromebooks in 2021?

A Chromebook may seem like a great deal on the surface. There are plenty of options for size and design, Google interface, and a great price. It is possible that a Chromebook could be worth your while depending on how you answer these questions. In this case, you’d likely be better off looking elsewhere.

Conclusion

First time in this range, Chromebooks have exhibited consistent quality. Given their similarities in design and functionality, a conspiracy theorist might conclude that Asus, Lenovo, Google, HP, Dell, and Samsung all source their components from the same factory. All types of laptops are available, from budget models to deluxe models.

But what do you buy when almost everything is done online, software support is unnecessary, and you only want to spend a couple of hundred dollars? Chromebooks may be the answer.

You can find many of these items at discounts, which is excellent news if you’re comparison shopping. These laptops can sometimes compete with the best laptops, most budget-friendly laptops, and best student laptops on the market.
